Patterson 1907

When I spoke to the driver of this car I was informed it was from 1907.

But I am mystified – I cannot find Patterson cars on the Internet. Does anyone (i.e. GB?) know anything about them?

Oops - You're right Ginger V - I re-checked my photos and sure enough it's a single T - I must have misread it after making the photos smaller.

  1. Sorry, I can't help you there. But I do know that as a lover of antiques I admire the car you photographed - It looks in pristine condition!

  2. this is the only thing I could find
In the USA there was a Patterson but his first car was in 1914 - the time fits on this one...

but after about an hour I couldn't find a photo of any of the patersons

  3. But isn't it beautiful? What more does one need to know?

  4. Interestingly the Paterson was built in Michigan from 1909 to 1923. I say interestingly because the owner said it was from 1907. I shall try and so some more research.

In the meantime I am off to Art Deco Sunday in Napier. There I will see hundreds - yes hundreds - of vintage and veteran cars.

    I'll be back.

  5. I've an extensive book but it only covers American automobiles, alas...this looks similar to the Buicks of that era tho', hmmmmm...I'll have a go at my English car books and see if I can find anything...

  7. The only think I know about Patterson cars is that I like this one and your pictures of it. And I'll probably poke around the Internet myself. I love mysteries.

  8. The grill definitely says Patterson with two 't's so that lets out the American Paterson ones of that era. As a number of people have commented it did look remarkably good condition but what the heck - it's very attractive.

  9. Along with GingerV here...my "100Years of the American Auto" book doesn't even mention Paterson( or Patterson ), but then there were hundreds of fledgling companies at that time, some not well documented...this bears further research...

  10. I'd been careless in my spelling. However there was a Mr. Charles Richard Patterson, founder of what was to become the world's first Black owned automobile manufacturing company.

    See http://www.highland-ohio.com/patterson_automobile.htm

and the following article in the African American on Wheels magazine in January 2005.

    This may help.
